This concept highlights how a high tourism destination can often still have economic shortfalls. This happens quite frequently in the Caribbean. While there’s minimal research on this subject, there’s an increasing desire to understand this further from savvy, smart travelers. Early published research results indicate that when booking high visibility hotel brands often result in 5-20% of your dollars staying in the local economy. On the flip side, finding quality local lodging often results in up to 90% being retained in the local economy.

Shop Local doesn’t have to be just where YOU live. Were taking this mindset to your favorite destinations across the planet. You make memories; the people who serve you make a living. Research has shown that every tourist dollar ($1) spent has been shown to result in 2-3x in local economic activity!

Clearly there isn’t a good zero carbon travel option for long distances (yet!). But our aim to be mindful. sometimes this means there are great alternatives, other times maybe not. But we’re doing the hard work of paving this pathway in an outdated travel industry.

We do take into consideration, the self-reported carbon footprint volumes (e.g. United Airlines or Google Flights) to support and honor their efforts; however, we also bump those against other independent sources to keep greenwashing at a minimum.

Walkable looks different for everyone. There’s nothing worse than waiting for transportation, so we avoid those waits when possible. We also know how cool it can be to explore - so this is highly dependent on the vibe you’re looking for.

Local businesses and nonprofits make our world go round. We’ll take a portion of our cut and donate it to the nonprofit of your choice. Even better would be a nonprofit near where you live. What could be better than impacting your community and creating memories at once?

Traditional travel advisory is easy. Pick a five-star hotel; get a higher commission. That’s not what we’re here for. It’s about time the amazing shops and lodging options who truly care about our planet get elevated. This is an ongoing evaluation since traditional travel hasn’t prioritized this. No greenwashing tolerated!
